Fragrance reviews

Kenzo AmourKenzo Amour ($72)

This perfume is a mixture of many different aromas from places like India, Indonesia, Japan, Burma and Thailand. It has an oriental-woody base, but it opens up with touches of incense, musk, rose, red berries, Tanakha wood, Thai rice steam, frangipani blossom, cherry blossom, white tea and vanilla. This combination of ingredients manage to produce a really unique, sensual, very soft and warm fragrance. I’m impressed by how unexpectedly sophisticated  and exotic it smells even when it changes notes while I wear it. And the best part – it’s totally different from any scent that I’ve tried before, and it lasts all day. I wasn’t a devoted Kenzo perfume customer before, but this one is on my favorites list.

ChloeChloe ($85-$110)

Top notes: pink peony, freesia, lychee

Heart notes: magnolia flower, lily of the valley, rose

Base notes: cedarwood, amber, honey

When I think about how to describe the smell of Chloe perfume,  powdery rose comes to mind. My first impression was quite pleasant, but after couple of hours the notes of both lychee and honey advanced, and the fragrance immediately crossed into a romantic bridal category. By the end of the day these two notes started to haunt me, it was a little too much sweetness for me to take.

Hanae Mori N1Hanae Mori No 1 ($95)

This is the latest fragrance from Hanae Mori and part of their new Eaux de Collection.

Top notes: black currant, mulberry leaf, bergamot, grapefruit

Heart notes: raspberry, blackberry, jasmine, white musk

Base notes: sandalwood, amber, vanilla

Fruity-floral with a touch of citrus – this bouquet lingered around me for hours after I spritzed the perfume in the morning. This fragrance may not be a good choice for a hot summer day, but it’s perfect for the evening out in early spring or fall. It has a few similar notes with Hanae Mori ‘Butterfly’, like black currant, jasmine and sandalwood. That’s why, although a completely different scent, ‘No 1′ became somewhat reminiscent of ‘Butterfly’ during my wearing it. I still like ‘No 1′ better, it smells more interesting and complex to me. Very nicely done.
