My latest discovery – blue eyeliner. Not that I haven’t heard of it or never seen it in stores before, just haven’t been brave enough to apply it on my eyes since the sweet age of 16. The idea to try the color again came to me in a very unexpected way: one sunny morning I woke up with a strange thought – I should get me some blue liner to try. I wasn’t sure if it would go with my green eyes, but I have a chocolate brown hair color now, which I hoped would create a perfect background for the blue. I decided to try it in a form of an eyeshadow for a softer look. Plus, with the shadow it’s easier to control the lining and color intensity by mixing it with a black pencil.
To avoid possible disappointment in spending money on something I wasn’t sure I’d use again, I went for a cheapie from a drug store first. After a long and painful decision-making process, I ended up with Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Riviera Blue. And you know what? I totally loved it. This shade turned out to be dark blue with some gray in it, which toned down the brightness. I lined my upper lids using a thin eyeliner brush, drawing the line upward at the outer corners of the eyes to get a visual lift. Then I blended it with a brush a little, to get rid of the painted-on look. I skipped the rest of the eye makeup, except for 2 coats of mascara. The result of my makeover was quite unexpected – it brightened up my whole face and made my eyes appear bigger.

Apart from being excited for my new makeup look, I grew to like Revlon eye shadows. The quality is pretty good, they don’t travel under your eyes, and have a decent staying power. And the best part – you get all of these good things for under 5 bucks.
But being a brand name slave, I didn’t plan to stop there. I found a beautiful single shadow, Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects eyeshadow in Garment. It’s silky smooth, goes on effortlessly, blends well, and stays put all day. It’s easy to apply, and can be used either wet or dry.
