How to make eyes look bigger

We are all in it, women in a life-long marathon for better-looking faces and bodies. We want what we want and when we want it. We want our eyes and lips to be bigger, our stomachs and derrieres to be smaller, hair longer and glossier, and not a hint of a wrinkle until we die.

While I’m not a life coach and can’t tell anybody how to deal with the body image problems, I can definitely be of use with some makeup techniques. If you are like me, and the perfect makeup application stretches your wings out for the rest of the day, this post is for you.

Eyes are considered to be reflections of our souls, so let’s make them bigger and brighter right here and right now, shall we?

1.Eye Makeup Curl your lashes. It helps to open up the eyes more and makes them look expressive.

2. Line the upper lids with an eyeliner. Any kind will do (liquid, gel, pencil, shadow), so choose the type you are most comfortable applying. In case you are not used to a liner, it may be a good idea to line the eyes with a shadow, as it’s easier to control, and the effect is softer than of a pencil or a liquid liner. If your eyes are dark-colored, you can go for black, dark brown , navy blue, dark green or charcoal. If your eyes are lighter (blue, gray or green), try brown, slate, light blue, purple or green liner. Start the line in the inner corners of the eyes and extend it all the way to the outer corners, making it curve slightly upwards at the very end. Don’t line lower lids or the inner rims of your eyes, it makes them visually smaller.

3. Apply 2 coats of mascara to upper and lower lashes. You have 3 options here: using either lengthening formula or volumizing, or both at the same time. If you think your lashes only need length, do 2 coats of lengthening mascara. If you need more volume – 2 coats of your favorite volumizing mascara will do the trick. If you want length AND volume, or you are into dramatically made up eyes, I suggest for you to apply a lengthening mascara first, and then volumizing one as a second coat. Don’t let mascara dry out completely before applying the 2nd coat, put it on right away to avoid clumps. Choose only 1 type of mascara for the bottom lashes to avoid spidery effect.

4. Swipe shimmery eyeshadow in a light color on the eyelids and blend well (taupe, beige, white, light green, gold or silver look great). You can apply it all the way  up to the eye brows, but I personally prefer not to go further than the crease. Add a little shadow to the inner corners of the eyes, it brightens them up and makes them appear bigger and further apart. You can also use the same shadow as a liner for your lower lids, just blend it well with a brush.

5. Define eye brows. Use an eye shadow or a pencil to darken them if you need to, then brush them in place with a little hair gel or a brow gel. Don’t skip this step, groomed eye brows frame the eyes better and make them appear more distinct.

Complete this look with a light dusting of a blush on the cheeks and a touch of pink or nude lipstick. Don’t use gloss if you have a shimmery shadow on your eyelids. This makeup is about accentuating the eyes, so everything else has to be toned down.
