Makeup from NY 2012 fashion week

New York fashion week is officially over. Exciting bright clothes’ colors aside, what was going on in the makeup department? Well, not much really. Maybe it’s because makeup artists had to tone down models’ face paint to let their clothes take center stage. There were certainly some prettily made up faces on the runways, but it was hard to find something innovative about models’ makeup looks, except for the little touches here and there. I fished out a few pics with some ideas for spring that are worth trying sometimes:

Donna Karan

Donna Karan‘s models strutted down the runway with espresso-red lips, shiny skin and strong  thick brows. The eyes were left bare for the breezy feel. I can also spot some bronzer action on the cheeks, chin and forehead. I’m a little wary of the lipstick color, as the brownish shades can make you look older. But it doesn’t hurt to try.

Naeem Kahn

Naeem Kahn did not invent anything new either, although their silver-gray smokey eyes looked very pretty. Shimmery eye shadow was applied all the way across upper and lower lids, and connected at the outer corners of the eyes. A coat of  mascara, groomed brows, peach lips and cheeks finish the look.

Ralph Lauren

Fresh and youthful pink cheeks, combined with a coat of black mascara and shimmery white eye shadow will look perfect in summer. Ralph Lauren‘s models’ lips were left bare for the softest possible effect.

Zac Posen

At Zac Posen it was all about fake eyelashes. The bigger, the better. Not much else was going on on the eyes, except, maybe a few coats of black mascara to blend natural and false lashes together. A touch of lip stain was added to help keep all the attention on big dramatic eyes.

Rodarte

Talking about dramatic eyes! Rodarte makeup artists left the face bare and focused only on shiny dark smokey eyes. The best way to achieve the same intensity is to paint your lids with black pencil first, top and bottom. Then blend it all with a brush or a Q-tip, and apply shimmery black shadow on top (navy blue will also work). Blend some more. Add a double coat of black mascara, and you are done.
