Makeup tips for glasses wearers.

Makeup with glasses

One of my friends once asked me over a cup of coffee if I ‘d consider to write a post for women like her. I didn’t get right away what she meant by that, but she explained that she hasn’t been able to figure out the best way to do her makeup when she was wearing her glasses. I did some thinking, asked my fellow glasses-wearing makeup junkies, tried out a few ideas on my friend, and came up with this post. I hope it helps those of you who have your prescriptions on most of  the time.

  • First and foremost, you need to coordinate the colors of  your makeup and your frames. It’s an easier job if your glasses have metallic, black or dark brown frames, in this case there’s no need to think about matching colors. But if you are into rainbow-colored frames, consider what shades don’t look good together, like red frames and coral lipstick can be an overkill. Keep in mind that the bigger and more colorful your glasses are,  the less makeup you need.
  • If your prescription lenses visually minimize your eyes, you might want to make them look bigger. Use light eye shadow colors and an eyeliner on the upper lids only. You need to draw a thin line though, nothing too strong or thick, so it won’t look overdone. Mascara is a must, just not too much, usually one coat is all you need.
  • If  your lenses visually maximize your eyes, opt for the more natural eye makeup, with no strong lines or too dark colors. Light brown or gray eye shadow is a good choice here. If you want to use eyeliner, choose a soft pencil or an eye shadow to line your lids, then smudge it a little with a Q-tip for a softer effect.
  • When you wear glasses, it’s a good idea to use creamy eye shadows to avoid powdery flakes getting on your lenses. And keep an eye on your mascara, it has to be always fresh, with no flakes, otherwise glasses will exaggerate the size of flakes under your eyes. My friend is a big fan of waterproof mascara, because she doesn’t have to worry about smudging it.
  • You’ll probably need concealer that is a shade lighter than you normally use, because frames usually cast shadows under the eyes, and you might need to brighten this area a bit.
  • Grooming the brows is a must too. Also, make sure that the thickness of your glasses doesn’t clash with the thickness of your brows. In other words, the thicker your brows, the thinner your frames should be to avoid a harsh look.
  • Don’t forget to swipe some blush on your cheekbones, and apply lipstick or gloss at the end. It completes the look nicely.
  • And always take time to thoroughly blend all makeup, as glasses can magnify the mistakes you made during application.
