My take on natural beauty products is: you personally get fresh ingredients, prepare a product yourself, and keep it in the fridge until it’s used up. If that is not the case, any product is very hard to call natural.
All the ingredients used for manufacturing any cream or a face powder are perishable. That’s why it’s impossible for them to last throughout the long process of storing, shipping, staying on the shelf in the store without any preservatives added. Just like the grocery store products. That’s why before buying anything at the cosmetic counter, it makes sense to always check the product for the chemicals added to it. Some of them are harmful for you or your skin, like lead or bithionol. Plus, a lot of natural ingredients are recreated in the labs to prolong the shelf life of the beauty products, and make them cheaper this way.
For us it’s all about personal preferences whether to buy a “natural” mineral product or not. But it may be a good idea to do a little research before you get your wallet out (especially for people with allergies), like going to the FDA site, http://www.fda.gov/, to check the info on approved cosmetic products and ingredients.
Also, we can always find product reviews done on numerous blogs and web sites. Here are some of my favorites:
