Party makeup idea: bright eyes & lips

Jil Sander

It doesn’t happen very often when makeup artists combine red lips with a bright-colored eyeliner. Black or gray liners are the usual choice. But here’s a whiff of a fresh new makeup idea for you, courtesy of Jil Sander runway: bright teal eyeliner and a fire-red lipstick combo. Surpriiiise!

This makeup was initially meant for spring time, but I don’t see any reason not to try it right now, during our fast approaching party season. It accentuates 3 areas on the face: brows, eyes, and lips. So the idea here is to make them look flawless – brows need grooming in advance, lips have to be soft and moisturized, and under eye circles hidden with concealer. After all of that is done, everything else is quick and simple. Fill in the brows with a pencil or shadow a shade lighter than your hair color. Then apply the eyeliner on the upper lids only, extending it a little at the outer corners of the eyes, and winging it up for a cat eye effect. Colored liner makes the cat eye look less dramatic than the black one. Finish your eye makeup with a coat of mascara. The model on the photo doesn’t have any mascara on her lower lashes, but I usually apply mine on both. And the last touch – red lipstick. The best way to apply it is straight from the tube, and then smudge either with a fingertip or a lip brush. In this case you won’t look like you tried too hard.

If you have to attend an after-work celebration of sorts, you can wear your colored eyeliner with a nude lipstick during the day, and then trade it for the red one right before the festivities. Green, blue or silver liners will also work here, as long as they don’t fall into a neon category.
