Do you sometimes wonder how expensive skincare products work in comparison to less expensive ones? I do. So having a chance to try 2 sunblocks at the same time sounded like an attractive idea to me. By trying them “at the same time” I meant covering one half of my face with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock ($12.99) and the other half with La Prairie Sun Protection Lotion ($85). As a result, Neutrogena won.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer is lighter in texture, and sinks into skin instantly. All makeup products glide evenly and effortlessly on top of this sunblock. It also contains a higher SPF, 50 or 70, for less money. It works all year round, and is fragrance-free.
La Prairie Sun Protection Lotion ($85) is simply not worth the money because of its heavier texture, lower SPF (only 30), and the tendency to get greasy under makeup. I feel it on my skin all the time, like an unseasonably thick moisturizer. To me, getting a sunblock with moisturizing qualities is a waste of money, because I always use my moisturizer first thing in the morning anyway. And all the fancy ingredients are probably unnecessary, as they may clash with face creams. It smells pretty good though. Although I was lucky to be able to test La Prairie Sun Protection for free, I still ended up going back to Neutrogena in a couple of days. It shows better results for a lesser price.
