Le chocolat

“Chemically speaking, chocolate really is
the world’s perfect food.”
Michael Levine

Since my childhood I developed an untreatable addiction to chocolate. I started with sweet milk type, then my taste progressed to the darker side, pun intended. I remember when I was watching film Chocolat with Juliette Binoche, I Chocolatecould swear I smelled every piece of chocolate that appeared on screen. By now you may find yourselves wondering why in the world am I writing about chocolate on the beauty blog, and the answer is very simple: it’s good for you.

We got used to hearing everybody talking about piles of fruits and veggies we need to consume every day, and I try my personal best to follow this advice. But in my opinion, nobody talks enough about health benefits of  a nice dark chocolate bar. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids (plant pigments that reduce damage done to your body) and antioxidants (they fight free radicals that clog arteries, damage cells and cause aging). It’s also a proved fact that 1 small bar of dark chocolate a day not only lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, but also, thanks to serotonin, works as an anti-depressant.

My favorite excuse for having it in my house at all times is that dark chocolate slows down the aging process and appearance of wrinkles. And on top of all the good things it does for our bodies, dark chocolate lowers the risk of getting skin cancer, as it fights UVA rays (you still need to use your sunscreen though).

Now I don’t feel bad anymore when I end up eating it more than I should, ’cause it feels like I’m getting healthier by a minute. So if you are hooked on this treat as much as I am, eat up and don’t blame yourselves for a couple of extra pieces. Chocolate improves our mood, which to me means that spending extra time working out is totally worth the trouble.

P.S. Once and for all: white chocolate is not chocolate, never has been and never will be. It’s a mixture of sugar, milk and cocoa butter. And it doesn’t bring you any health benefits whatsoever.
